Tourism and Culture
Functioning as a cross-roads between Eastern and Western cultures, Azerbaijan has been a centre of literature, music, theatre, architecture and artwork for millennia.
The country’s folk music, Mugam, for example, combines several poetic and musical influences into a special Azerbaijani art form. It is protected by UNESCO as part of world cultural heritage.
Also in recent times, Azerbaijan has been one of the main centres for cultural innovation in the region, with for example a strong jazz scene developing in the mid-20th century as well as cinematography taking off during and after the Soviet period, to name but a few key areas.
Visitors to Azerbaijan not only enjoy great cultural diversity, but also highly diverse natural beauty. Despite, the country’s relatively small surface, it hosts almost the entire world’s variety of climates, and hence an extremely rich variety of landscapes, fauna and flora.
